What the Repairs Toolkit does
Tenants Victoria’s Repairs Toolkit is a self-help tool that contains legal information about repairs in rental properties. It can also help you fill out forms to ask your rental provider (landlord) to do repairs at your home, or for you to lodge an application with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) for repairs.
The Repairs Toolkit is split into 3 individual tools. These can help you understand your repair rights, ask for repairs and take repairs to VCAT.
Our ask for repairs tool creates letters you can send to your rental provider. Our take repairs to VCAT tool creates a mostly completed application form that you can lodge with VCAT.
Using the Repairs Toolkit
To use the Repairs Toolkit, you need to read any questions carefully and answer them as accurately as possible. It is your responsibility to make sure that any forms or documents you generate are accurate.
Each person’s situation is different. Just because you generate a document using the Repairs Toolkit, does not mean you are entitled to, or guaranteed to, have certain repairs done at your rental property. If you are not sure if your issue is a repair issue or whether your rental provider is responsible, please seek legal advice.
Contents of Repairs Toolkit are not legal advice
The material included in the Tenants Victoria’s Repairs Toolkit is produced by Tenants Victoria and is intended to provide general information and template documents to renters who need repairs fixed at their rental home, and who can self-advocate.
This Repairs Toolkit does not contain legal advice and the information provided is not specific to your individual situation. This information is not intended to be a substitute for legal advice and should not be relied upon as such.
You should always seek specific legal advice about your situation.
If you need legal advice about repairs, or a different issue at your rental property, contact our renter support line. Find out how to get in touch on our contact page.
No solicitor-client relationship is created
The use, transmission or receipt of the Tenants Victoria Repair Toolkit, including emails, letters and forms, is not intended to create, nor does it create, a solicitor-client relationship between Tenants Victoria and the user.
