Understand your repair rights

You have the legal right to ask the rental provider (landlord) or agent for repairs. This tool will help you understand your rights in your situation.

Note: Rental Dispute Resolution Victoria now deals with some rental disputes instead of VCAT. While we update our website see more info at: www.rdrv.vic.gov.au

How the law treats repairs

The law separates repairs into 2 areas: urgent repairs and non-urgent repairs.

Urgent repairs must be done as soon as possible. Non-urgent repairs should be completed in 14 days.

This tool will help you understand your repair rights. It can also help you decide if your repairs are urgent. View a list of repairs that are deemed urgent on our repairs and maintenance page.

Save progress

You can save your progress so that you can return later to complete your task.

Click ‘Save my progress’ in the interactive tool menu above.
