Why donate?
Donations to Tenants Victoria are investments in a fairer community.
Donate to help us reach more tenants
Secure and affordable housing is a fundamental need for all of us, yet for too many renters it is out of reach. Renters can and do fall between the cracks in the housing system, especially due to:
- The high costs of renting a house relative to incomes. More than 150,000 renters in Victoria pay more than 30% of their total income in rent.
- The poor quality of many affordable rental properties and their distance from jobs and services.
- Inadequate protection for some basic housing rights in tenancy law.
We make a difference for Victorian renters through advocacy, education and advice. We receive government funding, but it is not enough to meet the demand on our services. Your donation will help us help more renters. It is an investment in a fairer community.
Donations make a difference
- More than 30% of Victorians rent their home. The demand from renters for our phone and email service is very high, and we answer more than 15,000 calls and emails each year. With your donation, we can reach more tenants.
- About 50,000 applications are made to VCAT, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, each year to resolve disputes between landlords and renters, with many of the applications made by landlords, such as attempts to evict. We assist around 150 renters each year at VCAT. Your donation can help us assist more renters.
- More than half a million people use our website each year. Your donation can help us provide more resources so renters can help themselves.
- Your donation can help us raise important issues with government decision makers, respond properly when changes are proposed, and work for policies that improve renters’ conditions and rights.
